Bacon at the 2012 Something Independent Entrepreneur Awards

October 3, 2012 Leave a comment

We were a proud sponsor for the 2012 Something Independent Entrepreneur Awards last night and Dave also had the honor of being one of the judges for the participants.

What is SIEA? Something Independent invited business from all around Colorado to compete for a grand prize of $1,500 in a video competition. More than that, to hold an event that would show case all the business and bring them them to the public attention. In their words: “Across Colorado there exists a distinct independent spirit that is nowhere more evident than in those Colorado entrepreneurs living at the intersection of business and lifestyle. In recognition of their commitment, their accomplishments and their passion…This is not a business plan competition. This is 90 seconds to make our judges believe in you.”

23 participants from all over Colorado participated, some were entrants from last year producing new videos for 2012:

(Active Junky, Alkaline, Apex Sports Group, Astis, Bould, condorcam, Denver Beer Co, Evol, Folsom, Grace, In the Soup, MHM, Mobile Canning, Oogave, Shredly, Oz Longboards, Pakems, Peakvibe, Skea, Snug Organics, Street Swell, White Girl Salsa, Wild Goose Canning)

It was a tremendous event, we had a great turn out here at Battery 621! The top three finalists were Apex Sports Group, Condorcam (our friend here at Batter and a returning finalist), and MHM (also a returning applicant). But there could only be one winner…

Congratulations, MHM – Mile High Mountaineering on your terrific video!

Check out more pictures from the event on our facebook page. We’re excited to be a part of it next year.

I Love LAMP.

Do you really want to know what love is?  It’s the way we feel for our local LAMP stack developer candidates.  We want you to feel the love … if you don’t feel it, email me.  It’s time for us to take this relationship to new heights.

PHP, Perl, it doesn’t matter – what I love is the whole package, my sweet, sweet LAMP stack developer.

BWBacon Goes To 11

Quality can be an esoteric thing.  Sometimes you simply can’t quantify it or put into words.   However, as a recent re-viewing of a perennial favorite film reminded me, sometimes you can.

At BWBacon we go the distance for our clients and customers, to become indispensable partners in their growth and success.  We’re faster, more efficient, timelier, more intuitive, knowledgeable and respectful, and just a hell of a lot more fun than a lot of our industry counterparts.  We do things differently, in work as in life.  Or, as Spinal Tap’s Nigel Tufnel put it, while some folks just try to make 10 louder, our “numbers all go to 11, right across the board.”

BWBacon Young Recruiter Program

Today we piloted our cutting-edge, industry-leading Young Recruiter program.  Shown here, our young recruiter-in-training (my very lovely 15 month-old niece, Nehema), read up on technology trends while under the watchful tutelage of Dave.

Our cold-calling module was a little bit bumpy, but by the end of the day Nehema had an expert command of the terms “Ruby on Rails” and “Regression Testing.”  Plus, who needs real skills when you’ve got a face like that?

Some call it babysitting; we call it anticipatory competency-development.

Introducing the Bacon Food Truck

Maybe the west coast is the best coast?  The food truck craze that has quite literally been swiffering the nation may have reached its greasy pinnacle.  The Bacon Bacon Truck opened up truck this week in San Francisco (SOMA), offering passersby bacon-infused goodness in many a delicious form.  They’re also offering badass t-shirts that assert what we’ve long held as gospel truth:  you had me at Bacon.

We’re holding out hope that the bacon truck will eventually take cues from the rest of the nation by moving to Denver, driving poorly, congesting traffic and never leaving. In the meantime, we continue to hold down the proverbial bacon fort here in Denver, representing bacon interests of all types, the most clear and present being our interest in finding the best and brightest web, software, mobile and interactive development and design talent in Colorado.  Contact us if we had you at bacon.

  • Social Graphing
  • Restful API
  • Someone who has built multiple FB apps, with 100,000’s of users accumulated

Like to apply.
